Movie watchers will know what I’m talking about as will readers of good fiction.
You know how you’ll be watching a movie or reading a book, and three different, seemingly unrelated plots are going on at the same time, and the storyteller keeps switching back and forth from one to the other?
Then suddenly, all the stories come together, the plot thickens, and it all gets extremely exciting!
Well, a few years ago I met a woman who was at the park with her grandchildren. She has the same name as one of my daughters, and we struck up a conversation.
Suddenly, her grandson, who must have been about ten and had climbed an observation tower by the ball field, fell between the top of the stand and the ladder and was hanging there by his chin. I saw it first and started rushing to help him, and his grandmother, in a panic, rushed to save him as well.
It took the two of us to lift his weight and get him back up through the opening to safety.
Just a random meeting at the park?
Never to meet again?
Not so.
A couple of years later I was having a yard sale, and this same lady came and was looking around. We recognized each other and had a happy “reunion”. To her, I was her “angel”, and she was so grateful that I had been there to help her at the park that day.
Her mom was also at the yard sale and bought some plants that I was selling. Turns out we were both lovers of flowers and gardening.
Not long after that, her mom brought me some flowers from her garden. So the relationship continued, though still as friendly acquaintances, not making any special effort to get together, but glad to see each other at those “chance” meetings.
A while later I met a lady in a nearby town, and over time we became friends. We have now known each other for about four years.
Recently my new friend has been gladdened by her best friend from grade school moving back into town. They have reconnected and are happily enjoying being back in contact with each other!
The other night I told my friend that I would like to meet her friend, and she said that her friend would like to meet me as well. And by the way, I was told, I know her friend’s sister and mom. I exchanged flowers with her mom a few years ago.
I think my eyes must have widened and my mouth must have dropped open at about that moment! I knew exactly who she was talking about!
I don’t know what exciting things are going to happen with the convergence of these relationships, but I feel a great anticipation that God has something great that He is about to bring about.
After all, if a human storyteller can make up such an amazing story, should we not expect that God Himself is able to orchestrate an even better one?
I am amazed that God has been working behind the scenes to bring this all together. He has lovingly and powerfully directed our lives, and I am excited to see what the rest of the story will be!
If you are stuck in one of those in-between stories, take heart! God is working behind the scenes, even when you cannot perceive it, and He has a beautiful plan, a beautiful story that he has written for you. Hang in there and wait patiently, trusting Him to bring it to pass in His perfect time.
