Lonely crow up in the tree,
He’s as high as he can be.
He looks around from left to right,
And enjoys his view from this great height.
One with his branch, he sways to and fro,
So very few worries does he know.
But suddenly with his watchful eye,
Threatening danger he does spy!
He does not think whom he might bother,
He just starts to scream and holler!
Small folk take heed to his timely warning,
But the big folk find that noise alarming!
The big folk think they’re the best around,
But by gravity’s force to the earth they’re bound.
Mr. Crow, however, on his perch in the tree
Is perfectly happy because he’s free!
Free to fly, free to fly, through the air he does soar,
He rests on a tree branch and then flies some more.
His loud, urgent warning to everyone he calls
So in imminent danger no one has to fall.
He points to the Holy One who went to the tree,
Died and rose again to bring liberty
To the human spirits like you and like me,
Who only through Him can truly be free.
Heed the warning, oh spirits who to earth still are bound!
Heed the warning; let Him lift you up off the ground!
Accept His forgiveness, and soon you will be
Flying high in the sky, for you’ll find you are free!
You’re quite a poet, Ruth. This poem touches my heart, especially this stanza:
“He points to the Holy One who went to the tree,
Died and rose again to bring liberty
To the human spirits like you and like me,
Who only through Him can truly be free.”
Yes, through Him we can be free to fly for Him! Thank you so much for this encouragement on a day when my wings feel like lead and so weary. Love and hugs to you!

Thanks, Trudy! I’m glad this touched your heart! I know the title is very close to your blog name, but I wrote this poem a long time ago, and it was just sitting in my journal in obscurity, and this seemed like a fitting title.
I’m sorry to hear you are struggling. I pray the Lord will strengthen you. Hang in there, and don’t give up!
Galatians 6:9 NIV “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

A beautiful poem. A beautiful parallel about how we can free as well. It’s so easy to be too “big”
To take lesson from the “small.” Reminds me somewhat of becoming like children. So often God uses the small to help us learn.

Thanks, Brittany!
Yes, we sure can learn some good things from children, things we may have had as children, but lost somewhere along the way, like trust and having fun and humility.
Blessings! ❤
