Finding Peace

Yesterday, as I was driving in moderate traffic, I saw a sight that God is using to help anchor me in spite of an interior struggle.

As I drove by a lake, I noticed a blue heron standing in the water at the edge, presumably fishing.

It was just so peaceful, like a snapshot of tranquility in a collage of whirlwind photos.

In the midst of all the hubbub and striving of life, don’t our hearts crave peace?

Peace is just so amazingly beautiful!

As I keep taking my thoughts back to that tranquil sight of the heron at the water’s edge, it occurs to me that, in a world of turmoil, where people want to be in control, there is a whole other world that lives on without our input, control, manipulation, opinions, or advice, another part of the world where God takes care of things, just as He wants to with us if we will be still and let Him.

I wonder what the rest of our world would be like if all of us would let God be in control like nature’s creatures, which seem to do so much better at it than us.

We can pray for that to happen, but we can’t make it happen. After all, then we would be just another person trying to be in control.

We honestly have enough troubles controlling our own selves!  What are we thinking, when we imagine that we can do such a good job controlling others!!?

What if we asked God to be in control of our lives and then rest in faith in Him for His provision, protection, guidance and Presence?

What if we let our minds leave the whirlwinds of the activities around us each day and anchor themselves in the edge of God’s water of life, the Spirit-breathed promises of His Word?

I’m ready to go there.

Would you like to join me?

  1. Yes, Amen, Lord have Your way in me, and help me to lean back in trusting You! Thank you Ruth, for these precious words about peace today. I love seeing those herons resting at the water’s edge, and eagerly watch for their arrival back up here every spring. May I be just as eager to watch for signs of His peace all around me! Blessings to you this Christmas!

    1. I’m so glad you’ve been able to find this peace! Yes, it is beautiful!
The above pic is at a pond not far from our house. It’s not the same place where the heron was, but herons are more difficult to photograph, and it was rainy outside. God bless you! 😊😊

    1. You’re right, Brenda, it doesn’t work out right when we forge ahead without seeking God’s leadership. Yes, His ways are ALWAYS Best! It’s a journey to remembering, though. We have so much to distract us, and we have to make an effort daily to seek His face and seek His will.
      Blessings! 🙂
