Hi! Welcome to Scripture Prayers #3! This is a new series that I plan on doing every Monday, so I hope you’ll join me here each week!
Do you ever have those times when you just don’t know what to pray? Scriptures are full of prayers and promises from God that He wants us to believe and claim!
I’ll include the Scripture first, and then I’ll do the prayer second. Then, if you’d like, you can compare how close they are to each other, and with a little practice you can start praying the Scriptures as you read them on your own, too! đ (Note: I’ll use the word “me”, not just for me, but so you can pray “me” without having to change it for yourself.)
Psalm 1 (NASB)
“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!“But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.“He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.“The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.“Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.“For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish.”
Thank You, Lord, that You have revealed to us in Scripture how we can be happy and blessed! I want to be happy! So, please help me not to walk in the counsel of the wicked. Help me not to settle in and get so comfortable with those living in sin and in mockery of Your ways (including digitally) that their ideas and attitudes begin to rub off on me.
Rather, help me to take delight in You and in the commands that You have given for my good. Help me to meditate on Your word day and night.
For You have promised that this will lead to my being spiritually nourished and watered like a tree planted by a stream. You have promised, Lord, that then, my life will be fruitful, firmly established, and successful. Help me to follow You in Your ways.
And, Lord, sometimes it seems like the wicked are happy and successful, but what they have is fleeting. They are not truly happy, for they do not delight in Your law, and they are not firmly planted. Rather, You have likened them to chaff which the wind drives away, here today, gone tomorrow.
Lord, please help us to warn those that you put in our paths, because maybe they might listen and repent. For You have said that they will not stand in the judgment, nor in the assembly of the righteous, and You’ve said that their way will perish.
Lord, You are well acquainted with the way of the righteous, for surely You walk with us and keep Your eye on us when we walk in Your ways! We need You, Lord! Help us to keep our thoughts on You always, so we can be well nourished and watered and have the abundant life you promised.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
P.S. Please let me know in the comments if you have any questions. I don’t want to make these posts too long, so I’ll try to explain things a little bit each week, but if I’m not explaining enough, please kindly let me know! Thanks!
amen; I stand in agreement with you in prayer. This was actually one of the first Psalm I had to memorize in its entirety as a child. Great post

I love this Ruth. I have to be more disciplined in doing things like this. I start off journaling, and then I drift into other things. I love this idea. Beautiful!

Thank you, Brittany!
Yes, it happens, but fortunately it is a journey, not a destination! When we realize we are off track, we just ask the Lord for help and get back on again! â¤
