Scripture Prayers #7

Hi! Welcome to Scripture Prayers, #7 in this series!

Do you ever have those times when you just don’t know what to pray? Scriptures are full of prayers and promises from God that He wants us to believe and claim!

I’ll include the Scripture first, and then I’ll do the prayer second. Also, I’ll use “me”, not just for me, but so you can more easily pray it and believe it for yourself.

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?

Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident.

One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty (delightfulness) of the LORD And to meditate (inquire) in His temple.

For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock.

And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.

Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice, And be gracious to me and answer me.

When You said, ‘Seek My face,’ my heart said to You, ‘Your face, O LORD, I shall seek.'”  Psalm 27:1,3-8 NASB

Dear LORD, You are my light in the darkness of this world and of my difficult circumstances. You are my salvation, the only One who can save me from the trials that overwhelm me!

I know that You surround me with Your protection, so I have no reason to worry or fear, for I know that You will come to my aid.

And LORD, even if a large number of spiritual or physical enemies would camp against me, I will trust You to be my Protector. And even though war were to rise against me, I know I can be confident when I dwell in Your Presence.

Really, Lord, how can I dwell in fear when I am dwelling in awe of Your beauty and of Your delightfulness?!

What a foolish choice I have sometimes made to dwell in fear instead of dwelling in Your Presence!

This one thing I want to correct once and for all, so I will seek You first, and meditate on You, on Your holy love and strong protection, on all the wonder that is YOU!

For in the day of trouble You will conceal me in the secret place of Yourself! You are my Rock, and in You I hide! The enemy will not be able to get past You Who are my stronghold!

And now You will lift me up on Your shoulders high above the enemies around me who are less than grasshoppers in comparison to You! With You holding me up with Your strong hand, I will even sing praises to You and rejoice instead of quivering in fear!

Hear, O LORD, when I cry out to You! Be gracious to me and answer me.

For I am taking You at Your word and claiming Your promises! You have told me to seek Your face, and that is what I am choosing to do. I come into Your Presence and seek Your face, believing that You are welcoming me. I am safe with You through Christ Jesus Your Son.

Thank You, Lord, for hearing my prayer.

Amen!

  1. I love this! Years ago (over 40 years ago!) someone at the church I attended in college put some of that Psalm to music and sang it. I learned it from a tape of the service and have sung it from time to time. It’s a beautiful melody for a beautiful scripture. It was good for singing to cancer patients when I was a volunteer musician. Thanks for sharing it – and for bringing back the memories.

          1. The Celtic harp is smaller, portable, and with fewer strings. There are no foot pedals as there are in a large harp like the ones you’d see in an orchestra.
Haha, no typo. It’s a small tambourine that attaches to my shoe with an elastic strap. When I tap my toe, as I would doing anyway, it adds a jingly sound and some fun to the song.
