Day 42 – Thankful for the comfort of God’s word

It happened again. I woke up way before I should have, way before I’d gotten enough sleep, and lay there awake in the darkness. Sound familiar?

Then negative thoughts started running through my mind, and I was unable to corral them all. So, after about 45 minutes, I got up, got my Bible, opened it to the book of Psalms, and began to read and to pray the words I found there.

“In You,O LORD, I have taken refuge…In Your righteousness deliver me. Incline Your ear to me, rescue me quickly; Be to me a rock of strength, A stronghold to save me…

“I will rejoice and be glad in Your lovingkindnesses, Because You have seen my affliction; You have known the troubles of my soul, And You have not given me over into the hand of the enemy…

“Let the lying lips be mute, Which speak arrogantly against the righteous With pride and contempt. How great is Your goodness, Which You have stored up for those who fear You, Which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You… You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man; You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues. Blessed be the LORD, For He has made marvelous His lovingkindness to me….” Psalm 31:1,2,7,18-21

As it has many times in the past, the Word of God chases away the negative thoughts. It puts things back in a right perspective and brings peace and comfort and praise to my heart.

Today, I am thankful for the way God comforts me through His precious holy Word.

Blessed be the LORD!

What about you? Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night and find you can’t get back to sleep? What do you do to overcome your sleeplessness? Have you tried reading the Bible to help redirect your thoughts?

Have a blessed and peaceful day! 😊
