Where I live, lots of leaves have fallen off the trees and covered the ground. Yesterday I swept and vacuumed the deck, including the runners, which had collected lots of dog hair and crumbled leaf debris. It looked so much better when it was all clean!
Then, today I focused on raking a triangular section of grass that extends between the deck, the gate, and the cars. The fact that only that spot was cleaned made it look so much better because of the contrast between the the finished and the unfinished areas.
I know it’s not going to stay that way forever, but for now, it gives me satisfaction to see the clean because of having completed those tasks.
This reminds me of some of the last words Jesus said while He was on the cross, doing the job that the Father had sent Him to do. He said:
“It is finished!” John 19:30
The debt that should have been ours because of our sins, He paid in full!
He paid it completely! It’s finished! There’s nothing more for us to do for our own salvation!
He Himself provided the once-for-all sacrifice that would wash our sins away and cleanse our hearts, giving us right standing with God!
“We have been made right with God because of our faith. Now we have peace with him because of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1 NIRV
And when HE makes us clean, He does a complete job! We may mess it up again, but His sacrifice isn’t limited to a one-time cleaning.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 NASB
So, today I am thankful for the satisfaction of completing jobs that clean an area around me, whether in my yard, my kitchen, my desk, my room, or my attic.
I’m even more thankful that Jesus finished the work that needed to be done so that my heart might be cleansed completely and the way be made clear for me to approach His throne of Grace!
Wow! Praise God!
What about you? Do you get to have the satisfaction of raking leaves or cleaning areas in your home or place of employment? Does it give you a sense of satisfaction to do your job well? Have you come to Jesus in faith receiving the gift He offers?
The Lord bless you! 🙂
