Letter to Jesus – Day 59 of Thanks

Dear Jesus,

I was just thinking about how incredible it is that You came to earth as a baby. You, the One who created the world and the universe, how did You fit into that tiny body? And why would You even do that?

Lord Jesus, I find it ironic that You created Your own earthly mom and dad, although, why not? You are all wise and surely the best organizer and plan maker in the world!

You picked out the exact geographic location in which You would spend the majority of Your life and the exact period of time.

I’ve wondered before, why a stable? But even before You came, You knew the heart of Herod and of everyone who frequented his court.

No, it wouldn’t do to be born in a place where Your life would be in jeopardy from the start. It wouldn’t do for You, the Great King of all creation to be born near the power hungry who would feel threatened by Your greatness!

Yes, it was an ingenious plan for You to be born out in the middle of nowhere,

  • the King of kings born incognito,
  • the Good Shepherd worshipped by shepherds,
  • the Lamb of God surrounded by sheep,
  • the once-for-all Sacrifice-to-be surrounded by animals who likely were raised as potential sacrifices!

The symbolism was all around You as to what Your ultimate purpose was to be:

“And you shall call Him Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sin,” the angel had announced.

And then, some time later, the wise men came and worshipped You with rich gifts symbolizing Your Deity, Priesthood, and death: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Surely You are okay with all the children playing parts, learning the story of Your birth. But would You help their teachers, giving them wisdom to know how to emphasize the fact that the story doesn’t end there?

This is such a wonderful Scripture about You, Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.”  Philippians 2:6-11 NIV

Thank You, Jesus, for doing all that for me. Please help us not to limit You to infanthood, but to recognize You for who You really are and how that should affect our daily lives, from our thoughts, to our words, to our actions.

Bowing to You as King,

Yours by Your mercy and grace,

Ruth

  1. This was beautiful, Ruth! It had NEVER occurred to me before that Jesus is the only One who ever got to choose His parents, His place of birth, etc! What a fun thought. And His own human body – I can see the hand of God crafting the vessel that would be perfectly suited for the tasks Jesus would be called to during His time on earth. The wisdom and power and purpose of God!!!

    1. Thank you, Olivia! I hadn’t either! 😁 I guess you might call it an epiphany. Amen! Yes, the wisdom of God we’ll never understand. Praise God for revealing Himself to us as much as He does!
Feel free to share if you’d like. Perhaps some of your friends would enjoy this thought like we have! 😄
