Day 66 – Thankful for artists and beautiful art

Greetings have begun to arrive wishing our family a Blessed Christmas and New Year. I always appreciate the greetings, whether they come on photo cards, handmade cards, or store-bought cards.

But sometimes a certain card will stand out because of its stellar artwork!

I think something in the human psyche just really appreciates beauty of all kinds. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV) says it this way:

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart;

I believe this “eternity” includes a longing for God, for goodness, for love, peace, and joy, and a longing for the perfect and awesome beauty of pristine nature and of heaven.

Some artists just have a knack for bringing that longing to the surface and then satisfying it in some small way.

I have a watercolor painting by Chrystal Jackson that made me imagine I was actually experiencing the wind and the waves crashing on the rocky beach at sunset. It actually gave me the inspiration to write a poem about God being the Master Artist.  You can read that poem here.

I have a couple of other artists that I really like, too. One of them is Monet.

When my husband and I went to Paris, we took a little trip outside the city to go see Monet’s garden, which was extra beautiful in the rain with visitors from all over with more umbrella designs than I could ever imagine! That would have been an amazing painting if he had still been alive to paint it!  🙂

Anyway, today I am thankful for talented artists who have a gift for bringing joy to the heart by painting those things that remind us of the beauty of God and of eternity!

How about you? Are you thankful for artists and the privilege of viewing their beautiful masterpieces? Do you have a favorite artist?

  1. My father was an art teacher and so was my mother’s brother. We were raised to appreciate creativity and takeen to many art museums and scenic places. I now have 9 very artistic grandchildren and the whole family appreciates art. I’ve amassed so many paintings, drawings and amazing photos, I don’t think I’ll ever find enough wall space to hang them all at once and I’m eager to experience the glories of heaven! This earth is such a pale copy of what’s ahead 💥

    1. Wow! That’s a lot of artists and art! I can see why wall space would be a problem! Are the pieces small enough to fit in plastic sleeves in a large three-ring binder?
      Amen! The glorious beauties of heaven will be beyond our imagination or any of the beauty on this earth!
