Day 167-Thankful for our tiller, my husband, and God preparing our hearts to plant a beautiful garden!

Saturday morning was cold, after having reached near freezing, but by afternoon it had warmed up and had become a beautiful day!

It was a perfect day for tilling the garden.

The strawberry plants already have blossoms, and I’m already harvesting asparagus. But the rest of the garden needed to be tilled before we can plant anything.

We had a healthy “crop” of chickweed that I wanted to pull first. Fortunately, I was able to get most of it out before it was time to till.

My husband got the tiller out and got it started. Then we took turns making sure the soil was all broken up and ready to plant.

I so appreciate my husband’s strength and expertise at getting the tiller started and maintaining it each year. I never have been good at starting machinery that requires yanking a chord. If it doesn’t start in 3 yanks, I’m done!

I was actually surprised that I could handle the tiller since it is so big and heavy. But once my husband gets it into the garden and makes the first pass, it is more just a matter of guiding it as opposed to pushing it. So, that’s not too hard.

So, the garden is tilled; now to plant!

On a side note, did you ever think about how sometimes God might have to pull weeds and till in our hearts to make the ground soft and right for planting seeds of love, joy, peace, and so on, a beautiful garden? Just a thought, but I think it would be an unpleasant experience with a beautiful goal in mind. Perhaps if we work together with Him, the process will be more pleasant and satisfying and get done in a more timely manner. Don’t you think?

Today I’m thankful for a tiller to prepare the ground.

I’m thankful for my husband’s strength, expertise, and helpfulness at getting the tilling done!

I’m thankful for a yard big enough for a garden and for the garden itself!

And I’m thankful for strength to do this work.

I’m also thankful that God works on my heart to get it ready for planting a beautiful garden!
