A few weeks ago I started reading starting at Psalm 100 with a group of ladies on Facebook. I got stuck at Psalm 116. I tried to read past it, but I keep coming back to it.
Yesterday I opened up my Bible, and verse 12 and 13 stood out to me. This morning I read it again.
“What shall I render to the LORD for all His benefits toward me? I shall lift up the cup of salvation.” (NASB)
Some take this word “cup” to be symbolic, and I think it totally makes sense. It is used symbolically and other places like Psalm 23:5:
“My cup overflows.”
Also, in Psalm 16:5 David says,
“The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and my cup.”
So, lifting up “the cup of salvation” would mean lifting up the LORD in praise, which is what we should do in response to all the “benefits” He has given us.
“Cup” could also be literal, but then praise would be limited to certain times and places, so I lean toward the figurative interpretation.
Whichever it is, we definitely owe the Lord all of our praise for His many benefits toward us!
I’ve been writing these posts for over 200 days, and each day tends to have between 2 and 6 benefits. My list of benefits is already so long, and it will get longer as the Lord continues to show me each day just how much He loves me.
The greatest benefit He has given me is the gift of Himself! He is my Portion and my Cup.
Today, I’m thankful for His many benefits!
I’m thankful that He is my Portion and my Cup!
I’m thankful that my cup overflows!
I’m thankful that His faithfulness is great!
And, I’m thankful that He daily pours out His blessings on me, both in the good times and the hard times!
What about you? Are you thankful for all of His benefits towards you? Have you ever made a list of all of His benefits? If not, would you like to start one?
