Back during summer vacation last year when a lot of people a were away out of town, I was standing with the congregation as we sang a song.
I noticed, since no one was standing in front of me, that I had three shadows of me swaying back and forth to the music. I know, I can’t seem to stand still, even when there is no music!
So here’s these three shadows swaying in front of me, and I started thinking, why three shadows? There were probably three lights up above me that were shining from 3 different angles.
There is a shadow because I’m in the way of the light.
I think it’s important for us to realize that God is the Light, and we’re not supposed to get in His way when He’s trying to shine on others.
As a matter of fact, as Christians, we have the Holy Spirit living in us. So, the light is supposed to be shining through us, through a clean heart surrendered fully to Him.
Letting God’s light shine through us is the opposite of standing in the way and not allowing His light to shine through us. It’s the opposite of blocking His light so that others cannot see it.
We block His light by letting sin dirty the “windows” of our heart. Jesus died to pay the debt for all those sins, and we need to ask for and receive His forgiveness. But even after He has forgiven and cleansed us completely, spic and span, we daily do things that smudge our heart “windows”. We need to be daily confessing our most recent sins to Him so that we can continue in right fellowship with Him and be clean vessels for His light to shine through to others.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
Today I’m thankful for special lessons that are pictures of a spiritual truth.
I’m thankful for lights and clean windows.
I’m thankful for all the times God has given me the opportunity to sing with His people in the past.
I’m thankful that Jesus shed His blood to save me from sin and wash me white as snow!
What about you? Have you believed on Jesus and received His forgiveness of sin? Do you daily go to Him to keep short accounts and let Him clean up the new smudges? 1 John 1:9 How are you doing at letting His light shine through you? Do you need to go to Him for some “window washing” today?

I love this. It reminds me that God is constantly trying to shine through me, and I have to stay connected to Him to make sure I donβt block what Heβs trying to do.
