Day 246- Thankful for farmers

Up to a certain age many children do not realize that most foods come from a farm. If you ask them where milk comes from, they will likely say, “from the store.” They enjoy all their favorite foods, all the while oblivious to where they really came from.

Without farmers there would be

  • no sandwiches,
  • no pizza,
  • no mac and cheese,
  • no favorite vegetables,
  • no French fries,
  • no ketchup,
  • no chicken nuggets or hamburgers,
  • no nacho chips, tacos, fajitas, or salsa,
  • no sushi or fried rice,
  • no pancakes,
  • no cake or cookies,
  • no milk or soy milk,
  • no strawberry jelly,
  • no pumpkin pie,
  • no whipped cream or ice cream, and the list goes on and on.

Today I’m thankful for farmers and farm workers.

I’m thankful for all their hard work and daily perseverance that make it possible for foods to end up in stores, markets, and restaurants for our nourishment and enjoyment.

What about you? Are you thankful for farmers? Did you ever wonder what would happen if all farmers decided not to be farmers anymore? Yikes! Do you know any farmers that you can thank personally? What are your favorite foods that would not exist if it weren’t for farmers?

“Does the farmer plow continually to plant seed?
Does he continually turn and harrow the ground?

Does he not level its surface
And sow dill and scatter cummin
And plant wheat in rows,
Barley in its place and rye within its area?

For his God instructs and teaches him properly.” Isaiah 28:24-26

  1. I still remember the excitement on my son’s face when I took him to dig for potatoes and he dug one up – they were his very favourite food. Thank God for farmers and for seed – each according to it’s kind. May we also look after the world He gave us charge over.
