Yesterday evening I was driving my daughter to her youth group meeting, and I opened up to her about how I’ve been feeling a bit down, uninterested, and even sometimes irritable. It’s discouraging for me to be struggling with this after having experienced so many of God’s victories in my life. But I guess if there are no new struggles, then how will there be a need for new victories over them? Anyway, I’m so glad to have such a sweet listener for a daughter!
A few minutes later, I turned on the radio, and the song “God’s Not Done With Me” was playing. It was exactly what I needed to hear!
“Standing in your ruins feels a lot like the end
So used to losing, you’re afraid to try again
Right now all you see are ashes
Where there was a flame
Truth is that you’re not forgotten
‘Cause Grace knows your name
God’s not done with you
Even with your broken heart and your wounds and your scars
God’s not done with you
Even when you’re lost and it’s hard and you’re falling apart
God’s not done with you
It’s not over, it’s only begun
So don’t hide, don’t run
‘Cause God’s not done with
You…
There’s a light you don’t notice
Until you’re standing in the dark
And there’s a strength that’s growing
Inside your shattered heart…
He’s got a plan, this is part of it
He’s gonna finish what He started…
He’s not done
God’s not done writing your story
No, He’s not done
God’s not done with you…
This reminds me of an encouraging verse:
“I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return].” Philippians 1:6 Amp
I had been straying from the journey to which God has called me. But He is calling me to get up and try again. Fortunately, He extends His loving hand to help me and walks with me. The photo of the potter’s wheel reminds me that He’s molding me into the image of His Son, Jesus. What a wonderful God! What wonderful grace!
Today I’m thankful for my daughter and for her lending a listening ear.
I’m thankful that God was with us there in the car (as always), and that He had prepared ahead of time just the right song to play at just the right moment.
I’m thankful that He’s not done with me!
I’m thankful that He still loves me and is still working in me.
I’m thankful that He is patient and able to complete the work that He has begun in me!
What about you? Do you ever get discouraged and wonder how God could still love you because you can’t seem to get it right? Are you thankful that He’s not done with you? Do you have a song that brings you closer to God when you’re experiencing discouraging times?
That song matches up with that verse perfectly!! And God is indeed using you in BIG ways, it just looks different in different seasons of life! But He works regardless!!

Aww, thank you, Alicia, for your sweet words of encouragement! Yes, seasons…this is definitely one of those. But hopefully just as dormant trees are storing up energy during winter for new life in Spring, the work God is doing in me in this season will produce good fruit in a future season.
Amen, He’s still working, even when we can’t see it!

I love it when God does that! He’s spoken to me, even through some secular songs. Like when I was being a “Martha” (as opposed to her sister Mary) and asking Him what He wanted me to do, (emphasis on the “do”) – He spoke to me through a song from “Phantom of the Opera,” if you can believe that. His answer: “Love Me, that’s all I ask of you.” ❤️

You’ve reminded me that time and again I sensed Jesus’ presence with me in my car as I commuted to and from (30 min. each way) the school where I taught. And as I sang or played the radio (or CDs in those days!), he’d speak encouragement to me. Such a wonderful blessing!

God constantly speaks to me through music! So my songs this week have been “I Know” by Big Daddy Weave, and “Evidence” by Josh Baldwin. Both have been uplifting.
God bless you!

Those are both great songs! We know that He is good and kind, but it’s so encouraging to hear someone singing that affirmation!

I agree it is a season. I can have several years of seasons in a week and in the winter I can’t even imagine the Summer! Then when Summer is there I hardly notice. As long as you are snuggling close to Him, telling Him all about it and handing it all to Him, you know you can trust Him with the outcome. I’m so glad He’s not finished with me yet.

I know what you mean, Dawn! I hope you are experiencing a good season in the Lord right now and trusting that His hand is indeed moving for your good even when it is not immediately evident without the use of the eyes of faith. God bless you, sister! 🙂

Yes, I do get down and discouraged. Actually been feeling that way this morning. Feeling like I’m a hopeless case who can’t learn to fly. But God… God keeps reminding me and inspiring me post after post I read this morning that He’s not done with me. I have it in me. I have Him in me and with me. I can keep rising from those ashes as many times as it takes.
Thanks for sharing and being one of the people God used this morning. I’m thankful for your post, Ruth. God bless. Keep rising and sharing your thankfulness.
