Hi!  My name is Ruth.

I’m so pleased that you’ve dropped in for a visit!  Welcome!

I imagine that, since we’re meeting on this page, you want to know who I am?  The me of today is not the me of yesterday, and I am still in the process of becoming who I was meant to be.  Even after all the experiences of my life, I still have dreams for the future in which I will not be exactly then who I am now.

Domestically, I am a wife, mother, and grandmother.  My parents are both still living but need daily care.

Educationally, I received my Bachelor of Science in Foreign Language with a certification to teach Spanish, and an endorsement in French.  I keep up with both languages somewhat by reading and by keeping in contact with French and Spanish-speaking friends by phone, e-mail, and social media.

Culturally, I have experienced visiting and living in enough foreign countries that I’ve never completely gotten over the culture shock of coming back home.  It’s like parts of those cultures became a part of me, and I can no longer accept everything about the culture that surrounds me.

The one part of my life that I am totally at peace with is my relationship with God through Jesus Christ.  He is the most important part of my life. The only part of this relationship that I would change would be to grow closer to Him and to love Him more and more.  Some people immediately think that I’m talking about religion here, but if they only knew my Best Friend, Jesus Christ, like I have had the privilege of coming to know Him, they would see how wonderful it is to be secure in the Arms of Someone who is always faithful, loving, and kind.

By God’s grace I’ve survived the darkness of grief, betrayal, pain and heartbreak. I’ve asked my questions and wondered “why?” and “how long?”  I’ve experienced plenty and lack of plenty and the hardships of raising children alone.

But I’ve also seen God step in and do the miraculous!  When I read in 1 Samuel 12:24 to “consider what great things He has done for you,” I find that I have numerous great things to consider!  He said He would never leave me nor forsake me, and He never has!  He has been close beside me no matter how much difficulty I’ve faced, and He wants to do the same for you!

My hobbies include blogging, Bible study, piano playing, singing, and gardening.  I’ve had other hobbies, too, and I still like to do those things from time to time, but there are only so many hours in a day, so these are the ones that have come to the top for the time being.  I love the mountains and the beach, waterfalls, and wooded hiking trails.  And I love spending time with beloved family and friends.

I hope that by sharing with you the thoughts I’ve had in relation to the various experiences of my life, I can somehow encourage you in your own life journey and help you find hope for better days!

  2. Dear Ruth, I just responded to your comment on “Beyond the Nook” regarding the care of your parents. Just in case you do not get the response, I would like to post it here:

Dearest Ruth, God has given each and every word for this post and the others. I pray over them that they will be of benefit to those who are caring for others. I am so grateful that you have been blessed here. Should you need other topics, please check here at Beyond the Nook — Courage for Caregivers as I have three others. Plus on my blog — Being Woven — at the top there is a page with many posts listed and linked. It is called Giving Care God’s Way. Please feel free to email me any time. I will be holding you and your parents in my prayers.

  3. Ruth, I am so pleased to get to know you a little more. I know it was a long time ago {through the post above I followed}, but I’m really sorry that you went through that pain of a broken marriage. I am a child of a broken marriage, and it’s painful for all the people. I am so thankful God has done so much in your life. Keep ministering to us all through your Christ-centred words!

  4. Hello Ruth,
Thank you for visiting my site today and the encouraging words. I love what you are doing here on your site. Looks like God is using you for His glory as you make a sweet aroma through Jesus. In answer to your question. Check out PicMonkey. It’s a free website that can help you in creating the images you want for your site by adding the script you want to your pictures. I hope that is helpful. Have a fantastic weekend and may God richly bless you in all your endeavors as you seek Him!

  5. It’s great to meet you, Ruth. I think that your hobbies are great especially writing, singing, and Bible Study. I also wanted to thank you for following my blog. If you don’t mind me asking: What was it about my blog that made you want to follow? Either way, I’m glad that God is using this blog to reach people around the world.

    1. It’s great to “meet” you, too, God’s Warrior! To answer your question, I followed your blog because your title indicates full surrender to God and because you write from a discipleship aspect. I think this is necessary in the “water-it-down” culture in which many of us live today. Also, I think it’s important to be connected, because the Holy Spirit can use our writing to help us learn from each other. And, for this reason, I invite you to follow my blog, as well. Blessings! Grace and peace to you. 🙂

      1. As you said Ruth. My blog is about total surrender to God. That is what I want my life to be based on. Although right now, it’s still My Way vs God’s Way, I want to through this fast, continous prayer, and reading His Word give total surrender to God.

        1. I pray in Jesus’ name that you will succeed in daily following God in total surrender and that He will deliver you from the evil one each day and give you victory over the flesh. Fasting will help. You may need to do it often, but that is okay, as long as you find a closer walk with Jesus through it. Our way is nothing but trouble compared to God’s Way. Continue to follow Him, dear brother.
