About

Hi!  My name is Ruth.

In my life, so many events have taken place, and so much time has passed that there is no short answer to the question, “Who are you?”  Even if I could answer that, I still have dreams for the future in which I will not be exactly then who I am now.

Domestically, I am a wife, mother, and grandmother.  My parents are both still living though they now need to be checked on.

Educationally, I received my Bachelor of Science in Foreign Language with a certification to teach Spanish, and an endorsement in French.  I keep up with both languages somewhat by reading and by keeping in contact with French and Spanish-speaking friends by phone, e-mail, and social media.

Culturally, I have experienced visiting and living in enough foreign countries that I’ve never completely gotten over the culture shock of coming back home.  It’s like parts of those cultures became a part of me, and I can no longer accept everything about the culture that surrounds me.

The one part of my life that I am totally at peace with is my relationship with God through Jesus Christ.  He is the most important part of my life. The only part of this relationship that I would change would be to grow closer to Him and to love Him more and more.  Some people immediately think that I’m talking about religion here, but if they only knew my Best Friend, Jesus Christ, like I have had the privilege of coming to know Him, they would see how wonderful it is to be secure in the Arms of Someone who is always faithful, loving, and kind.

As for experiences of the soul, I’ve been through the wilderness, through the Red Sea, and through the darkness of grief.  I’ve experienced betrayal and pain and heartbreak. I’ve asked my questions and wondered “why?” and “how long?”  I’ve experienced plenty and lack of plenty and the hardships of raising children alone.  But I’ve also seen God step in and do the miraculous!  When I read in 1 Samuel 12:24 to “consider what great things He has done for you,” I find that I have numerous great things to consider!  He said He would never leave me nor forsake me, and He never has!  He has been close beside me no matter how much darkness or difficulty I have faced.

My hobbies include writing, Bible study, piano playing, singing, and gardening.  I’ve had other hobbies, too, and I still like to do those things from time to time, but there are only so many hours in a day, so these are the ones that have come to the top for the time being.  I love the mountains and the beach, waterfalls, and wooded hiking trails.  And I love spending time with beloved family and friends.

I hope that by sharing with you the thoughts I’ve had in relation to the various experiences of my life, I can somehow bring encouragement and hope to you in your own life journey.

  2. Dear Ruth, I just responded to your comment on “Beyond the Nook” regarding the care of your parents. Just in case you do not get the response, I would like to post it here:

Dearest Ruth, God has given each and every word for this post and the others. I pray over them that they will be of benefit to those who are caring for others. I am so grateful that you have been blessed here. Should you need other topics, please check here at Beyond the Nook — Courage for Caregivers as I have three others. Plus on my blog — Being Woven — at the top there is a page with many posts listed and linked. It is called Giving Care God’s Way. Please feel free to email me any time. I will be holding you and your parents in my prayers.

  3. Ruth, I am so pleased to get to know you a little more. I know it was a long time ago {through the post above I followed}, but I’m really sorry that you went through that pain of a broken marriage. I am a child of a broken marriage, and it’s painful for all the people. I am so thankful God has done so much in your life. Keep ministering to us all through your Christ-centred words!

  4. Hello Ruth,
Thank you for visiting my site today and the encouraging words. I love what you are doing here on your site. Looks like God is using you for His glory as you make a sweet aroma through Jesus. In answer to your question. Check out PicMonkey. It’s a free website that can help you in creating the images you want for your site by adding the script you want to your pictures. I hope that is helpful. Have a fantastic weekend and may God richly bless you in all your endeavors as you seek Him!
