From Fish-filled to Faith-filled

Dear Jesus,

When You were here on this earth, You had special followers who walked with You every day.  They saw You do miracles but still struggled with unbelief because they lacked understanding.  When You asked them how you all were going to buy bread for the 5,000+ people, Philip resorted to logic, and Andrew sort of threw the question back at You:

“We have five loaves and two fish, but what are they among so many?”

None of them thought to say, “Lord, You are the Son of God; would You just create some bread and feed them so You can receive the glory You deserve?”

Father, please forgive us for falling into the same trap.  Help us out of the trap; help us out of our unbelief.

Enlighten us with Your knowledge; give us eyes that see Your greatness and Your love and that You are just as great and loving toward us today as You were with Your followers back then.

I praise You, Lord, that You are on the move already!!!!  You are already in the process of answering prayers for those in impossible situations!  I praise You for Your greatness and for Your love toward Your children.

Help us to see Your awesome works and marvel and never, never forget what You are teaching us or are about to teach us!

We lean on You, for You are the only One sturdy enough to hold us up.  Anything else we lean on, including our own understanding, will give way and allow us to come crashing down.  So we lean on You today.  You are the only One that can fix what’s broken in our lives and in the church and in the world.  We need You to fix us, Lord; You have the tools and the know-how, and You care about us and our brokenness.

Help those who don’t recognize their brokenness or their need for You both to recognize and admit their need to You.  Help those who are stubbornly holding on to their brokenness because it’s the only thing they have control over, to hand it over to Your control so You can show them how much You love them and care about them.

Forgive us who have seen Your mighty power but have so quickly forgotten and stopped praising You like we should.  Help us all to humble ourselves under Your mighty hand and trust You to do the impossible in our lives and the lives of others for whom you have given us a burden to pray.  Forgive us of our sin of not loving You constantly with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength.  Forgive us for not abiding in You, for not bringing every thought captive to Your authority, for not focusing on Jesus, for not being thankful in every circumstance, for not rejoicing always.

Help us to draw close to You and trust You more and walk with You day by day like we should, kind of like Your special followers so long ago, only with more faith, since You have given us the Holy Spirit to dwell within us.

You are our wonderful, Awesome God, Jehovah, our King forever, and at the same time You are our Covenant Friend.  Thank You, Lord, for Your amazing grace.

In Jesus’ Name we pray,

Amen.
