Day 194- Thankful for the LORD our Banner

This morning I woke up with a worship song going through my mind that I haven’t listened to probably in years!

Lift High the Lord Our Banner
By: Randy Rothwell

Lift high the Lord, our Banner
Lift high the Lord, Jesus King
Lift high the Lord, our Banner
Lift high your praise, to Him sing…

For He is wonderful
For He reigns on high
For He is marvelous
The Lord draweth nigh…

It’s a worship song done in what I’d call a victory march tempo. Maybe there’s another term for it; if you listen to it, maybe you could let me know if that’s a correct analysis.

Listen on YouTube here.

I’m reminded of the story of Jehoshaphat and his army having to go to battle against an army that was too great and mighty for them to defeat. 2 Chronicles 20

  • He proclaimed a fast and brought the issue to the Lord in prayer.
  • The Lord gave them instructions on what to do via a prophet.
  • He told them to praise God, and that the battle would be the Lord’s.
  • The singers went forth on the front lines singing praise to God in faith that He would fight for them, on their behalf.
  • And He did!

We have many spiritual enemies, an unseen force. We will only have victory when we put our full trust in God to fight on our behalf.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God…” Ephesians 6:10-13a NIV

These spiritual enemies are fighting against God’s people and against His kingdom. They come trying to destroy the beauty that God has created and envisioned.

But God is greater than all of them put together!

“My dear children, you belong to God. So you have defeated them because God’s Spirit, who is in you, is greater than the devil, who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4 ICB

Recognizing that we have this spiritual enemy is the first step in having victory.  Then we must go forth in a prayer of faith in the One who is much stronger than the enemy and in praise for the victory that He wants to give us each day in the battles that we face!

Today I’m thankful that the Lord is our Beautiful Banner, King of kings and Lord of lords!

I’m thankful that He fights for us when we come to Him in prayer and praise!

I’m thankful that He invites each of us to follow Him; we are invited!!

I’m thankful that He is our Peace.

What about you?  Have you ever thought about trusting God so solidly that you praise Him for His answer before you see it arrive?  How have you experienced the power of prayer personally?  Feel free to leave a link to a blog post where you talked about this, if the story is too long for a comment.
