Day 145- Thankful for God’s provision, protection, and peace

Thursday March 19th, 2020 dawned bright and beautiful. The little hotel room that my daughter and I stayed in across from the college was very nice and clean. We enjoyed our stay there, but we had to go pick up my son and all his stuff at the dorms, since COVID-19 prompted university shutdowns.

We managed to get it all in our car; then we headed back home. Traffic was a little heavier each day we were on the road, but still not the normal stop-and-go at the major cities that we go through.

We saw a brush fire in the mountains that was making a lot of smoke. At first I thought it was just fog, AKA a cloud, but when my teens saw the fire, we realized it was actually smoke. Fortunately, the fire was small and off to the side, and the smoke was above and beyond us, so it didn’t actually affect us in any way.

We did have just a slight amount of rain further on, but not very much, not enough to make driving difficult.

It was good to hear my daughter and son joking around with each other. I think my daughter really missed her brother while he was gone.

We also continued to listen to the Adventures in Odyssey audio dramas as we drove. These are very interesting and well done and made the time pass much more imperceptibly.

We drove to the same hotel that my daughter and I had stayed in on the way to the university. I had not made reservations because I was not sure when we would leave the college, but fortunately, they had a room for us for a good price!

Today I am thankful for our pleasant stay at the college hotel.

I’m thankful that my son’s stuff all fit in our car!

I’m thankful that traffic was not too bad.

I’m thankful that the fire in the mountains was not out of control.

I’m thankful that we did not get any rain that would have made driving conditions more difficult.

I’m thankful for my son’s and daughter’s joking and laughter and for the Adventures in Odyssey Audio Drama that made time passed so quickly!

And, I’m thankful that God provided us with a hotel room for a good price even though we did not make reservations!

God truly is still good! He still gives good gifts to us even in trying times! He loves us all very much! He is with us even in the difficult times of life, and He is still on His throne!

How about you? What are some good things that you have seen God give you even in the midst of the present confusion?

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.” 1 Corinthians 14:33

      1. You’re welcome!

We just finished celebrating my birthday a week late today. It was fun! Other than that, we’re just staying home filling in time. I want to make a family fun tonight later on playing games and stuff like that.
We watched our church service on livestream from this morning. I’m sure it was odd for my pastor to preach to an empty church, but many were watching it! 🙂

  1. I will probably write a post about it, but I am seeing around here how the situation seems to be bringing out the best in people.
A neighborhood on line chat had a post about a veteran’s home nearby that needed TP and some other necessities, and the response was immediate and beautiful. (“On our way!” “How many do you need?” “Anything else?” etc.)
The Red Cross blood donation center was the busiest I have ever seen it.
While a lot of people are working from home, some of my daughter’s friends have had to go in to work and were not provided with masks, so she got to her sewing machine and has been making them for these people.
While walking my dog I am seeing walkers, joggers, bike riders, people gardening or just sitting on their front porches, carrying on conversations from a safe distance. In the past week I have met and got acquainted with four neighbors I didn’t know before. They’re all about my age, and we have a lot in common. Kids are out playing in their yards instead of staring at screens.
…I could go on, but you get the idea.
We may not be able to control the circumstances, but we can choose our attitude.

      1. The words of that Psalm speaks to me. When I was ill I said it like a mantra and stood on the promises. Whenever I think about it anytime, it moves me to tears and calms my very soul. I feel as though God is speaking just for me, … I am comforted by the words and the peace it evokes in me.

        1. Wow! That’s a wonderful testimony! God is awesome, and I’m so glad He’s shown Himself to be so near and dear to you!
If you’ve already written a blog post on this, I’d love to read it! I’d need you to leave me a link here. If you haven’t, it would be a great post, I’m sure, as just this bit in the comments is so uplifting!

            1. Thanks! I never thought about that. I’ve made the Thai red curry many times, but not the stir fry. My son likes to use an extra can of coconut milk in the Thai curry. We’ve never tried it with broccoli and mushrooms before, so I’m glad that it was so good! I usually make it with carrots, which makes it rather sweet.
